Developing Your Own Authentic Spiritual Life - Why It Requires Bravery and Strength Today - Kathy Caprino

Building up Your Own Authentic Spiritual Life - Why It Requires Bravery and Strength Today Some portion of Kathy Caprinos arrangement Spirituality and Success At the point when I was a kid, I was brought up in the Greek Orthodox confidence, however honestly, what I heard in chapel and what I encountered surrounding me when I was in chapel, Greek school, or Sunday school, felt extremely off to me by one way or another. Despite the fact that I was practically nothing, I had a profoundly adjusted radar regarding what felt consistent with me, and what felt off-base and destructive. Furthermore, the encounters I had in chapel and how I saw individuals act to one another didnt fill me or connect me with adoration and motivation a remarkable inverse. As I developed, I began building up my own thoughts regarding how a caring God would talk and carry on and plainly my own definition was altogether different from the authoritative opinion I had been educated and the unbending convictions I was presented to. Totally different to be sure. I didnt realize how to process those distinctions, and I contemplated internally why should I think I know what a caring God would do and say? so I cleared having an otherworldly life away from plain view for a long time. I just couldnt accommodate my own hearts longings for more love, empathy, association, pardoning and comprehensiveness on the planet, with all that I was seeing around me that was being touted as religion. I even had the astonishing experience of singing for a year in NYCs St. Patricks Cathedral ensemble, as a non-Catholic. While Im thankful for the experience, I saw by and by direct how exclusionary and biased sorted out religion can be. I recollect one lady in the ensemble hanging over to me and murmuring in a basic tone We dont cross ourselves like that here, alluding to my Greek Orthodox method of doing the indication of the cross. Indeed, even in my 20s I realized that a genuinely adoring God wouldnt care at all how you cross yourself. At that point something happened that adjusted my life and thinking significantly. I was launched out from my corporate life at age 41 (laid off in a ruthless way that squashed me, in the days following 9/11), and like such a large number of us who had an enormous reminder after the disasters of 9/11, something aired out in me that couldnt be disregarded. I out of nowhere and frantically needed to interface from an otherworldly spot with others, and to assemble all the more a profound life that felt right to me. Also, abruptly I was resolved to do it. However, I floundered in that procedure too, taking a stab at various ways that despite everything left me feeling either hurt or baffled, or that I had not exactly yet discovered my otherworldly truth or home. So I continued investigating, exploring and taking a stab at new and more established otherworldly lessons and practices, to check whether they felt right, great, cherishing and invigorating to me by and by. During my season of expert change when I left corporate life and was concentrating to be a marriage and family specialist and mentor, my heart and soul opened more extensive than at any other time, working with individuals who had experienced so much injury, agony, misuse and remorselessness in their lives. I worked one end of the week with specialists on call whod had served in 9/11 and saw the unspeakable and were battling in themselves and their connections to process the injury, and I felt more love, reverence and sympathy for others than Id truly ever experienced in all my years. I despite everything cry when I consider it. Something moved, and I began identifying with individuals uniquely in contrast to a profound love in my substance, not from my head. At that point I found the books of Neale Donald Walsch Conversations with God and stated, Yes! At long last! These are messages that I can fold my substance over. These are messages that for me, assist me with seeing a genuine adoring power on the planet, not the regular messages of avoidance, discipline, contempt, and self-dismissal that we so frequently hear for the sake of religion. My eyes were opened to the way that a great many others on the planet were experiencing their own profound investigation and were seeking after their own endeavors to build up a genuine otherworldly life that could conceivably line up with the strict lessons were presented to day by day. A following stage in my expert preparing included considering REIKI and different types of vitality recuperating, which I really loved. These examinations carried me much closer to feeling the encounters of others, interfacing profoundly with them. Considering vitality recuperating opened from numerous points of view to feel (in my body and in my passionate and lively field) what someone else is encountering without the utilization of words. These methodologies and devices are with me today and I utilize all of them in vocation/official/initiative instructing, preparing, my composition on Forbes, Thrive Global, and LinkedIn, in my media work and talking commitment today. Around 8 years back, I was attracted to take a class with Trudy Griswold, a top of the line writer of the book Angelspeake about how to interface with your heavenly attendants, and I discovered my work with Trudy another astonishing and enlightening experience. I started keeping in touch with my blessed messengers, and getting mind boggling, inspiring messages of adoration, intelligence and direction that offered bits of knowledge that I felt were not originating from me however were exuding from a more elevated level of help. At that point, in 2016, my association with holy messengers advanced into a more profound practice and experience. In December of 2016, I learned of Lorna Byrne through crafted by Mike Dooley (whom I genuinely appreciate and appreciate). From the moment I viewed Lornas recordings, I felt a profound desire and calling from route somewhere inside me to become familiar with her and her work and encounters with the heavenly attendants. That Christmas week, in 2016, I went through the whole 7 days perusing all of her books and tuning in to the 9-hour sound variant of the astounding, top of the line book Angels in My Hair, and I was completely entranced and moved. From that experience, I marshaled the mental fortitude to connect with Lorna to inquire as to whether I could talk with her. She said Yes! what's more, I had the tremendous benefit and delight of meeting her by means of video in our Messages From the Angels online course. Heres the principal meeting of two we did together: Meeting Lorna Everything I can say is WOW! Everything Lorna shared felt so genuine and legitimate for me. I felt changed subsequent to being with her, even on record. Furthermore, simply being in association and discussion with Lorna, I felt what I can just depict as being nearer to God and to the celestial and a profound wellspring of otherworldliness and adoring sympathy inside and around me. From that discussion, I ached to meet Lorna face to face in Ireland, and invest much more energy learning with her. I had the option to do only that last April Ireland and my two developed youngsters went along with me, and went through a day and a half in Lornas wonderful Ireland home with her little girl, Aideen. Since that time, our lives have changed in manners that are so excellent and exciting. We presently feel in more profound association with our lovely Angels and different types of otherworldly help, and its been life-advancing involvement with such a significant number of ways for me and my family. After our Ireland visit, I promptly had another profound yearning, and that should have been ready to enable other ladies to encounter what I had, being in Lornas nearness, and gaining from her astonishing life and encounters about how we also can interface and talk day by day to our Guardian blessed messenger and other otherworldly supporters. Getting the opportunity to invest energy straightforwardly within the sight of Lorna in the ravishing quality of Ireland, to pose your inquiries about your Guardian holy messenger and different holy messengers who are here to help us, and how to figure out how to get to their direction about your life, work, connections, wellbeing and that's only the tip of the iceberg, I accept youll find as I did that Lornas answers are so genuine, genuine, and transformational in their effortlessness and love. What's more, they are mending. At the point when you ask Lorna inquiries, here and there youll hear what you generally have known and heavenly nature and otherworldliness yet never had the mental fortitude to accept. What's more, different occasions youll hear answers that will make you need to move and sing with euphoria and help. Be that as it may, consistently, the genuineness and straightforwardness of Lornas messages will ring in your heart. Since being with Lorna last April, weve investigated bringing a gathering of stunning ladies straightforwardly to Ireland to get the opportunity to encounter this luxurious land and furthermore be in direct friendship with Lorna to gain from her bits of knowledge and encounters, and to assist you with becoming acquainted with our own gatekeeper blessed messenger and other otherworldly aides. Join Lorna and me in Ireland this September! Towards that end, Im excited to offer a stunning retreat understanding for ladies co-facilitated by Lorna Byrne and myself called Connecting with Your Angelic Support To Build a Happier Life and Career. Im past energized at this chance to carry 20 ladies to Ireland to encounter an otherworldly retreat that will recharge, rouse, recuperate and change. For what reason do we have to discover daring to build up our own otherworldliness? One last note about building up your own credible otherworldliness Ive experienced reality that it takes an enormous portion of valiance and quality. Our reality can be extremely unbending and prescriptive about what otherworldliness is and isnt, and how you ought to figure your convictions around otherworldliness. What's more, society can be very critical about individuals who are open about their otherworldliness. It very well may be a brutal and critical world, where individuals think for example, How would you be able to be a main Forbes supporter, official/administration mentor and effective entrepreneur but interface with holy messengers? These are not totally unrelated, yet numerous individuals dread talking and in any event, contemplating otherworldliness and avoid it. What's more, in working with a great many individuals a year, I originate from a position of regard for their convictions. On the off chance that they need to investigate building up their own otherworldliness in their lives, Im glad to. In the event that they need to investigate individual and expert development without addressing otherworldliness, that is fine as well. Yet, I know beyond all doubt that we are substantially more multi-faceted than we understand (or concede so anyone can hear), and there are numerous viewpoints to who we are that can educate and advance our liv

Tragically too many employment searchers depend on it as the principle device to land that next position. It just won't work well for you. Here's the reason. The feared discussion It happens constantly in my training, unfortunately. This year, I was reached by John by means of email. John's a 40ish official who had been in the printing industry for a long time. He needed me to see his resume and let him realize the amount it would cost to rework it. I said I'd be glad to call him for a concise telephone discussion about his resume and quest for new employment needs. We talked and he was great. Yet, here's the issue. At the point when I got some information about his pursuit of employment methodology and plan, he had none. I simply need to get my resume current so I can get it out there, he let me know. He conceded that he didn't know what he needed to do. He had lost his employment three weeks sooner, and had worries about printing's contracting openings. I feel I'm adaptable; a Jack all things considered and I could contribute in various territories. I'd prefer to simply get it out there. All things considered, I halted him in that spot. Managers genuinely are not keen on you being everything to all individuals. They need to realize that you can fill a void to meet their particular need. They need a counterpart for a specific opening. They regularly need a purple squirrel, I said. I let him know to be perfectly honest, John I can keep in touch with you an incredible resume that is engaged, marked and rich with content applicable to your objectives. However, on the off chance that you don't have the foggiest idea what those objectives are; on the off chance that you don't have the foggiest idea what you're advertising, it's the truck before the pony. John, the best resume on the planet sufficiently isn't today. Indeed, you ought to redo it to reflect back to the position/crowd you are showcasing to. In any case, all the tweaking on the planet won't make it the do-all-end-all in the present work scene, regardless of the amount you wish it would. John got more bins Here's something else that regularly happens when individuals reach me. In spite of the fact that John said he realized that systems administration and web based life were significant, he conceded he had no methodology, no arrangement. Along these lines, more or less, John didn't have the foggiest idea what he needed, where to discover it when he knew, or how to get it after that. This was an arrangement for a long quest for new employment peppered with a great deal of dissatisfaction. Here was an official who was unmistakably not in charge. I didn't sell John on training, yet I educated him on its advantages. He was happy to think about this asset accessible to him. In our work together, John had the option to: Deal with his desires for the pursuit of employment and use procedures to remain proactive and positive. Lead an exhaustive self-evaluation of what he was acceptable at and loved. Make real expert marking and a thick stock of examples of overcoming adversity. Exploration his objectives markets, associations and jobs. Market himself past the resume with a set-up of records and incredible LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter content. Deal with his online personality and advance himself online as a specialist in his field (which he found, was Product Management). Find out more while selling in systems administration and enlightening meetings. Interface, explain, work together and close in prospective employee meetings. Ace the move of pay dealings. Kick off achievement in his new position (Yes, he landed fourteen days back in a developing industry, in what appears to be an incredible fit). As per an investigation by ability the board firm Lee Hecht Harrison (cited in Wall Street Journal), individuals who utilize a profession mentor secure positions up to 46% quicker than the individuals who don't. Indeed, resumes are significant. I think of them and completely advocate their worth. In any case, making your pursuit of employment reliant on fundamentally that one thing resembles having all your budgetary arranging in a bank investment account. Training can assist you with differentiating with numerous assets and apparatuses. Feeling stuck? I can help! Photograph: kevinspencer

Its OK if What You Think Makes You Happy Doesnt - The Muse

Its OK if What You Think Makes You Happy Doesnt - The Muse Its OK if What You Think Makes You Happy Doesnt I simply don't have a clue what's up with me, my companion stated, anxiously destroying the beverage coat that accompanied her paper cup while we sat at the corner table in one of our preferred neighborhood cafés. We had consented to meet for an hour or two so she could vent about different things that were worrying her. She was a ways into her second year as a social specialist a position she'd buckled down for. After her student, a graduate degree, and innumerable entry level positions, she was at last working in the field that she had imagined about since she could recall. I have precisely what I needed, she stated, conveniently sorting out the cardboard shreds she had heaped on the table, Things being what they are, the reason do I despite everything feel this disrupted? Is it safe to say that i should be more joyful at this point? I moaned and revealed to her that I knew precisely how she felt. Truly, it was a circumstance I ended up in a greater number of times than I wanted to tally. Furthermore, guess what? I'm willing to wager that you've been there once or twice also. Maybe that is the reason one specific statement from an ongoing meeting that writer, Gretchen Rubin, did with Alison Green, who runs the well known Ask a Manager site, stood apart to me so much: At times the things that satisfy us aren't the things that we wish satisfied us whether it's a specific sentimental accomplice or the books we like to peruse or a particular profession track. That is so evident, right? It's so natural to develop these thoughts of what ought to bring us euphoria dependent on the notoriety we need to develop or the picture we need to present to the remainder of the world. Yet, here's the risk in that: You frequently wind up cherishing the thought far more than the truth. When you in the end find that specific thing doesn't in reality light a fire within you as you had initially envisioned? All things considered, there's frequently a weighty measure of disgrace that accompanies that-a feeling of disappointment, regardless of the way that you're quitting any trace of something you never truly delighted in at any rate (genuinely, simply get some information about the time I attempted to persuade myself that I love running). Furthermore, that was actually where my companion got herself: After contributing huge amounts of time, vitality, and assets into her instruction, she thought her profession way was sincerely burdening and nothing like she envisioned. What's more, that revelation left her inclination troubled with blame and disarray. I wish I had Green's recommendation to impart to her at that point, since I see her message as especially promising. Not exclusively are you permitted to attempt things and afterward discover that you don't encounter the feeling of satisfaction or energy you were seeking after, but on the other hand you're typically permitted to drop them like hot potatoes when you arrive at that resolution. Much further, turning out to be mindful that something doesn't bring you joy isn't only a chance to relinquish those things that don't fulfill you, yet in addition to discover the things that really do. I've attempted to truly organize making sense of what brings me satisfaction regardless of whether they're things that aren't altogether lined up with the mental self view I need to have-and afterward attempt to orchestrate my life in like manner, Green proceeds in the meeting. Along these lines, on the off chance that you've at present ended up stuck in a comparable circumstance as my companion and feel like you've been hoodwinked by the real world, take Green's consolation and gone for it. Keep in mind, while we as a whole need to do things that aren't thoroughly delight commendable from time to time (heartbroken!), life's too short to even think about filling your days with stuff that just cuts you down. You have my authorization: Let go of that inclination to thrash yourself and rather direct your concentration toward making sense of what really will present to you the degree of eagerness and fulfillment that you realize you merit. Trust me, that is unquestionably more beneficial than the other option.

3 pieces of wisdom if youre failing miserably at finding a job

3 pieces of wisdom if youre failing miserably at finding a job Early in his career, Ian Siegel worked at companies too small to have a human resources department. He had to manage his own recruiting, and quickly found the process to be grossly inefficient â€" posting to multiple boards and processing scores of candidates that flooded his email inbox. Siegel remembers staring at a stack of printed resumes on his desk and thinking, “There’s got to be a better way to do this.” So he devised one! Through his experience assisting employers with their hiring, Siegel has gained insight into common issues on the job-seeker’s side as well. If you’re looking for a job, you know how much work goes into putting together a memorable resume and cover letter. Spending time submitting applications only to never hear back from employers is frustrating and disheartening. But, as Siegel explained when I spoke with him, it doesn’t have to be this way. Using insights from ZipRecruiter’s database of more than 7 million resumes and 8 million jobs posted in 2015, Siegel has learned to identify red flags early and chart a course around them. Here are his tips for making your job search easier and more productive. 1. Research is the fastest way to get hired With the ease of online search and one-click job applications, sending a mass submission to every job in your area might seem like a productive course of action. Unfortunately, just because you’re sending a resume to a large number of inboxes doesn’t mean it’s getting seen. “Our data show that job-seekers who submit more than 46 applications in a 30-day period are only four percent more likely to get hired than those who submit between six and 10 applications in the same amount of time,” said Siegel. “Essentially, sending out a bunch of impersonal applications doesn’t increase your odds of getting a job.” What should you do instead? Research the companies you’ll be applying to, not just the job, and set yourself up for success before you even apply. According to Siegel, “Having some context will not only help you decide if a role is one you want to pursue, but is the absolute key to writing a standout cover letter. Whenever you’re talking to the company, always be answering the question, ‘Why do you want to work here?’” 2. Use Your Network Forty-six percent of all hires at top-performing firms are referrals. No matter where you are in your career or job search, you’ll always benefit from a strong professional network. “If you’re just starting to build your network, don’t be shy,” said Siegel. “Reach out to former teachers, speakers you saw and admired, people currently doing your dream job â€" anyone you feel you could learn something from. Ask them to meet for coffee and build a rapport. It’s especially important to nurture these relationships when you’re not actively looking for a job, so you’ll be top of mind when an opportunity does come up.” Another great way to make yourself known is to contact companies when they’re not hiring. Establish a good relationship with hiring managers by inquiring about future positions, offering yourself for freelance work, and asking about other opportunities within the company. When a position does become available, you won’t be just another anonymous resume in the pile. Your network can be a powerful tool for you in many respects, providing you a pool of qualified professionals whenever you’re in need of job referrals, recommendations, or career mentorship. As Siegel directs, “Use it wisely.” 3. Know yourself in order to sell yourself Seventy-five percent of HR professionals say they decide on a candidate in less than five minutes. That means your application needs to stand out â€" or the right reasons. Hiring managers are busy, and they welcome things like grammatical errors and other avoidable mistakes as opportunities to toss your resume and move on to someone more qualified. While you’re perfecting your resume, take some time to think carefully abouteverything you might want during the next five yearsâ€" everything from career aspirations and salary requirements to hobbies you’d like to pursue and family plans. These dreams shouldn’t be carved in stone, but thinking about them will give you an idea of what you’ll need from your next job to move on your desired path. Siegel recommends asking yourself: “What do I already know that will propel me forward? What do I need to learn?” Knowing the answers to these questions will improve your interview style. Some of the most common interview questions include, “What are some of your strengths and weaknesses?” and “Tell me about yourself.” These are topics that make most people sweat, but that’s often because they haven’t given them enough thought. Many people go with a canned answer about time management and loving hard work, and after the interview, they don’t stand out in the candidate pool. Instead, Siegel suggests job-seekers learn their strengths â€" and their weaknesses â€" so they can present each accordingly. Finding a great job takes work, but it’s really a great time to be a job-seeker. Businesses are hiring and unemployment is low, which means less competition for you. Even though getting a job â€" any job â€" might feel like the most important thing in your world, taking time to consider your long-term wants and needs will free you to be more authentic when talking to potential employers, and help you find a role that’s a great fit for both you and the company.

Interview with the CEO Questions to Ask

Interview with the CEO Questions to Ask TweetIve got an interview with a senior executive at (company). What questions can I ask to get a sense of how their style and priorities will affect my day-to-day work? I was asked this question this morning in coaching a client who is interviewing for project manager roles. Her concerns may be a lot like your own. So lets explore what you might ask if you wanted to know the following: What kind of company culture is filtering down from senior management? How does communication happen between senior management and other levels? How are the values, vision, plans and strategies communicated? How does this company reward good performance? How would you describe the company culture here? How is that culture evolving? Is senior management committed to the department Im interviewing in? Where do you see the company expanding or focusing its efforts in the next few years? What upcoming initiatives do you find particularly exciting? How do you see (relevant department)s role in the companys growth? Do they set direction in a firm, consistent way? How and when are goals for this department set? I like working under management that has a servant leader style where the leader shares power and emphasizes developing people. Does this executive believe in this, and practice it? Asking directly about a specific style may cause the executive to become defensive or question your compatibility with the organization. Instead, ask more general questions and listen between the lines. Can you describe your leadership style for me? Whats your ideal or philosophy about senior managements role in the company? How does this company foster leadership at all levels? What is your approach to motivating and developing talent? What is holding the company back? How is this company looking to evolve so that it continues to compete effectively, and how could a person in this role support that evolution? Obviously, these are more questions than most non-executive candidates will have a chance to ask in their brief time with a senior leader, but they can guide your own research as well. Read up on the executive in the business press and on social media. Talk to people who know the company. Then prioritize your questions for the interview. You may get a chance to ask many of them, or just one question, or none, if the CEO talks the whole time! Choose your questions wisely. The questions you ask say a lot about you. Are you excited about the role, or worried? Interested in the big picture (the executive hopes so!), or just your own job? The right question to ask depends on many factors, including the roles, authority levels and personalities of the individuals involved. For example, if youre an executive yourself, you may not need to be as deferential as a mid-level candidate. Consider the suggestions above as food for thought and use your own best judgment. Keep in mind, also, that the executive may not simply answer your question. He or she may ask counter-questions such as, Why do you ask? or What leadership style do you prefer? Be prepared to bring a harmonious blend of authenticity and strategy to this conversation. For more tips, read my post How to Ace an Interview with the CEO. Due to my most extreme trust in my list of qualifications composing skills, and hoping to land a meeting, I faxed my list of references. Sufficiently sure, inside 24 hours, my phone rang. True to form, it was the business who put the advertisement. Notwithstanding, this call was not for a meeting at this time. Quality vs. Quantity What do you Think is Best - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Quality versus Amount What do you Think is Best - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career A week ago @danschawbel and I made up for lost time over lunch and something we addressed was whether the best system pushing ahead for individual brands was the discussion between amount or nature of substance. I love this conversation since it truly makes you consider what you need to rely on and the observations that others will frame about your own image. The base edge of value: Let me set the desire for this conversation. Lets expect that at least the substance you will make fulfills the base guidelines of value. While that may mean various things to various individuals lets simply concur that the base limit of value isn't surprising substance however it isn't ghastly either. It is widely appealing. In favor or quality: Professional: Those that contend in the kindness of value content for the most part concur that a lower posting recurrence, with an accentuation on profundity/broadness is the most ideal approach to develop your own image. This kind of substance is commonly longer long and may make determinations from a few distinct sources and differing view focuses that bring about some new kind of knowledge. Those in the quality camp for the most part accept that quality ascents to the top through substance advancement, announcements, sharing, and a sprinkling of SEO. The greatest favorable position to concentrating on truly elevated quality substance is that your own image will be viewed as intriguing and you will be viewed as a pioneer in your specialty. Con: This is outrageously, difficult to do all day every day. There is a tremendous time factor associated with staying checked out the new patterns that influence your industry and afterward blending those musings into your own thoughts. The other significant impediment to depending on too great is that your posting recurrence will be on the low end, best case scenario, perhaps once every week by and large. There is an immediate connection between's your posting recurrence and the amount and nature of web index traffic you get. The less you post, the lower your traffic, and the less perceivability you have. For amount: Ace: Those in the kindness of amount by and large concur that you can scale best by concentrating on shorter posts that go live every couple days. The amount camp accepts that each blog entry resembles a lottery ticket and the more lottery tickets you have, the better your progressions are at winning your lottery. Through sheer volume you will start to pull in more eyeballs in web crawlers, interpersonal organizations, and the shareability factor. They contend that only one out of every odd post will be groundbreaking news, earth shattering, or distinguishing another pattern. Be that as it may, rather, steady, intriguing posts are the most ideal approach to scale your own image. Con: It is anything but difficult to fall into the snare of not meeting the base edge of value talked about toward the start of this post. On the off chance that that trap is disregarded time and again, you will distance your perusers, lose perusers and start to be seen as a novice or quack. You will be gotten out by different bloggers and your own image ascribes will begin to become negative brand properties. You likewise track the scarce difference of posting too as often as possible for your crowd and disappoint them with staying aware of a lot of substance. My take: I think you have to have at least one to two top notch post for each week that are inside and out, acquire other view focuses and truly pushes the idea envelope. At that point, you have to enhance that with blog entries that might be shorter, anyway as yet fascinating and worth sharing. There are a wide range of methodologies to make short posts fascinating, however perhaps that is one weeks from now post. Presently lets hear what all of you think. Is it quality or amount what do you believe is ideal? *The 3 best remarks chose by yours really will get a free duplicate Inbound Marketing: Get Found Using Google, Social Media, and Blogs by Brian Halligan and Dharmesh Shah. Top 5 - Winter Work Wardrobe Malfunctions

Top 5 - Winter Work Wardrobe Malfunctions by Michael Cheary Summers well behind us (all two days of it), so its time to put away your shorts, stash that sarong, wrap up warm and embrace the autumn. And nows also the perfect time to update your work wardrobe to reflect the changing seasons. But rethinking your wardrobe for the colder months can be a risky business. With winter coats, shoes and many a layer to match up, the line between getting it right and getting it wrong is a fine one.To help you avoid becoming an office fashion victim this fall, here are our top five autumn/winter fashion faux-pas5. Ski wearTheres nothing wrong with skiing. Theres nothing wrong with ski wear. And, to a certain extent, wearing your ski jacket to work is perfectly acceptable provided its a nice, calming, neutral colour (leave your multi coloured neon puffer to the slopes). But use the office off-piste look in moderation and leave the salopettes and moonboots at home.Verdict: Hey, at least its waterproof4. SunglassesThe summers gone. I ts sad, but its something were all getting used to. So our advice is to stow away the sunnies till spring. The sun may be lower in the sky, but the chances are it was dark when you left for work this morning and itll be dark again when you leave. Verdict: Bicycle yes. High street no.3. Soxer Whilst the stylist in us would always advise against wearing any kind of Velcro-fastened sandal / jelly shoe to the office, the moment you add socks into the equation (particularly white ones), youre seriously pushing the boundaries of acceptable office attire, whatever the time of year.Verdict: A footwear combination for no season.2. NoveltyNovelty clothes: two words which should remain mutually exclusive. Dont get us wrong, Christmas jumpers are great for adding a little bit of festive cheer to the office. And to be honest, were all for it: on the 24th of December. 12th October is not fine, however. Nor is any other date in the Gregorian calendar, for that matter. Remember the true meaning o f Christmas: everything in moderation. Verdict: The holidays are coming please wait for them. (N.B. while were on the subject, musical ties are never acceptable)1. Trainers Obviously, taken in isolation, trainers are fine. And if youre lucky enough to wear jeans to work, by all means be our guest. Its the potential for disastrous sartorial syntheses that make trainers our number one autumn fashion faux-pas for the office. If youre sporting a pair of futuristic looking running shoes with weird neon stripes and honeycomb weaving with a suit or socks/tights/skirt ensemble, then youre on your own. If you absolutely have to wear them, try and keep it cool with a pair of pumps.Verdict: You can be comfortable and stay fashionable.Honourable mentions: double denim, patterned tights, short shorts.Find a job What Where Search JobsSign up for more Career AdviceSign up for moreCareer Advice Please enter a valid email addressmessage hereBy clicking Submit you agree to the terms and conditi ons applicable to our service and acknowledge that your personal data will be used in accordance with our privacy policy and you will receive emails and communications about jobs and career related topics. Professional Advancement Tips for Young Career Professionals -

Professional Advancement Tips for Young Career Professionals - Beginning your career can be both exciting and terrifying at the same time. While most people develop an idea of the profession they’d like to pursue at an early age, once they’ve met the reality of the challenges in today’s job market, its easy to abandon the passions they once had. However, becoming established in your career and regularly advancing can keep you interested and engaged.   And it is definitely achievable if you have the right mindset and follow a few basic strategies. Below, we’ll address some professional advancement tips you can use to make sure you stand out from other job candidates, and how you can continue to develop your career successfully. Start to Network Networking has become one of the most effective ways to get noticed by companies and plays an important role in your career advancement. Whether pursuing a career in healthcare, tech, manufacturing, or marketing, knowing how to network properly can afford you many opportunities and help you connect with other like-minded professionals in your field. A recent survey shows that 85% of jobs are filled through networking, especially through professional social networking sites like LinkedIn. But LinkedIn isn’t just designed for office workers and business executives. For example, medical doctors and nurses use the platform to connect with other industry professionals for their advice and expertise while further developing their careers. Having a regularly updated LinkedIn profile has become a staple in the business world. Not only does the platform allow you to showcase your recent experience, skills, and career objectives, but it also makes it easy to apply to jobs and connect with recruiters and hiring managers looking for talent like you. Take Career Development Courses Becoming an expert in your field, design for example, can take time, as does getting promoted to higher paying positions. One way to advance this timeline is by taking college courses and training classes to improve your professional skill sets. Not only are these courses beneficial on their own and help you become a subject matter expert, but being enrolled in a training program shows a potential or current employer you’re serious about your career. A Tale of High Achieving Career Ladies However, not everyone can attend a college or earn a degree â€" and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. Today, there are many ways to learn new skills without shelling hundreds of thousands of dollars in tuition. Career development courses, workshops, and subscription-based professional education classes offer individuals the opportunity to pick up and develop new job skills without breaking the bank. Improve Your Resume A common mistake that aspiring business professionals make when starting their career is thinking it’s acceptable to use the same resume for each job they apply to. Past job descriptions and summaries should be customized so they apply to each company they’re submitted to. This will be the first section most employers review on your resume, and keeping it in line with what they are looking for will increase your chances of getting an interview. Referencing work history may be challenging for professionals early in their career as they have little experience to refer to. In this case, it’s never acceptable to lie. Rather, it’s important to highlight other important credentials, such as your professional affiliations, special language skills, education, volunteer work, and any career development courses you’re currently taking or have finished. Professional advancement can take patience as you gain the skills necessary to climb the ladder in your field. By following these basic steps, you’re sure to get noticed by employers while building a strong foundation for a long and successful career. Does Your Personal Brand Resemble a Celebrity - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Does Your Personal Brand Resemble a Celebrity - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career During college, a lot of people thought my personal brand resembled that of Mario Lopez. As we all know, Mario Lopez was on the hit TV series Saved by the Bell as A.C. Slater. Lopez is currently hosting the MTV reality show Americas Best Dance Crew. This visual association typically came from girls or others that I met for the first time. Some were afraid to tell me that I looked like Mario, while others were upfront and honest about it. I even ran into a situation where a Cop called me A.C. Slater, which blew my mind. Our society reveres Hollywood celebrities to a point where people wish they were them. Some take being compared to a celebrity as a compliment, while people who are reading this blog want to stand out and shine. Brand YOU is about being unique and a celebrity to a specific group of people. Here are some questions to ask yourself: Was there a time in my life where someone said you look like _____? What about me resembles that celebrity? How might Brand ME be different, in terms of facial sculpture, hair/eye color, skin tone and smile? Does the celebrity display a positive brand image? If so, do I carry that image along with the brand Im being compared to? Aside from my face, what else about my physical appearance gives others the sense that I resemble a celebrity? Is it how I dress or my personality? Who is the celebrities audience and how is that different than mine? Do I want to use this resemblance to my advantage? Do I have a choice? Brand YOU is singular Although the object of personal branding is to populate your world with a strong network, Brand YOU is singular. To be a successful brand, no one else can be you. This is how you differentiate your personal brand. You want others to want to resemble you or at least learn from you. To be a brand in 2008 means to separate yourself based on your unique identity, consisting of a picture, name, expertise, and personality.

8 Distractions You Can Turn into Motivators CareerMetis.com

8 Distractions You Can Turn into Motivators Have you ever texted while driving? Has your parent, partner, or friend ever told you to put your phone away during dinner? Do you find yourself daydreaming when you have a lot on your plate? These habits are distractions, and they’re more common than you may realize.Distraction occurs frequently in daily life, but it’s a real enemy at work. According to one UC Irvine study, it takes an average of 25 minutes to refocusafter a distraction, which can really add up in terms of time If you count yourself among those who experience significant distractions during work hours, there are things you can do to fix your working behavior. Keep reading to learn how to identify what distracts youâ€"and how to turn those distractions into motivation.Know What Distracts YouBefore you try to tackle your distractors, you have to identify them. Here are some common distractions at work that you might face.Noise and routine workplace soundsPhones and other connected devicesSlack or other office mess engersMultitaskingSensitivity to certain physical sensations Headphones are your friends, especially in an open floorplan, where they can block out the noise of chatty coworkers. But what you listen to can also affect your ability to work. You might want to listen to podcasts but find that spoken words can disrupt concentration.Instead, try listening to meditation music or soothing sounds without lyrics. White or pink noise is also a popular choice, especially intensive tasks. Use them responsibly, and your headphones could be the key to improving your focus.2) Productivity hack your smartphoneIs your smartphone smart enough to not bug you with a bunch of alerts while you’re working?evalProbably not. With all the games and social apps it puts at your fingertips, your phone can be a big productivity killer. It doesn’t have to be, though. Try setting limits on which apps you can use during work hours: use your phone to handle business communications like checking emails or Slack, s et the alarm feature to keep yourself on schedule, or take quick notes during a meeting. You can even find work-related appsthat help you with expense tracking or guide you in professional development. If there are apps that drastically affect your attention, consider uninstalling them Sure, everyone loves cat gifs. But when a few gifs become an hour-long chat, they can really hurt your productivity. So if you’re going to use a messaging system like Slack, don’t give it the ability to derail your productivity every few minutesâ€"instead, optimize itto minimize how often it forces your concentration away from the task at hand. You can also use messaging platforms for collaboration: ask your coworkers for suggestions or help on the project that you are working on, or set up a quick, informal brainstorming meeting. Gathering various perspectives from different people is always helpful. And if the conversation turns to a thread of YouTube videos, let your coworkers know you’ll be sig ning out for a bit in order to focus.4) Know which tools help rein in your attentionPlenty of old-school workers think digital devices aren’t helpful when working, while younger workers tend to think digital tools are essential. But the truth is, in most cases, tool efficacy comes down to how they’re used. If they’re implemented poorly, they create one more thing for you to try to juggle as you multitask. So get to know which tools can help you keep your focus on a single task, and use them wisely. Turn on Focus Mode in Microsoft Word, or download an extension for productivity. Tech can be a big source of distraction, but it can also keep you on task.5) Reward focus with a few minutes of fun distractionevalWe’ve all had those days where we feel too hungry to focus, or too enticed by nice weather to stay cooped up at a desk all day. But in a lot of cases, those feelings are based more on wants than needsâ€"they’re reasons to avoid getting to work.Luckily, a small mindset cha nge can work wonders here. Try treating those small distractionsâ€"a candy bar, a quick walk outsideâ€"as a reward rather than a necessity. Set a realistic goal, like replying to all of your open email threads, and then treat yourself once you’ve hit it.6) Plan time to resolve your big distractorsSome distractions aren’t exactly fun, and they wouldn’t be great to use as a reward for some serious focus. In those cases, book yourself some time to face the distractions. Is your cluttered desk making it hard to find some forms you need? Use part of your lunch break to clean it up. Worried about traffic during your rush hour ride home? See if you can adjust your schedule to travel outside of that window. Have too many web browsers opened on your computer screen?evalTake a few minutes to bookmark any unnecessary ones, and revisit them later.Once you’ve taken care of the really problematic distractions, you can start working without worrying that they’ll creep back in when you’r e on the clock.7) Turn the clock into a timerYou keep looking at the clock unintentionallyâ€"you thought an hour had passed, but just a few minutes have ticked by. And even though you have tons of tasks to do by the end of today, your frequent clock glances keep pulling your focus. What can you do So, an obvious fix here is to make ineffective meetings more effectiveâ€"but what is an effective meeting? Here are some strategies to hold an effective meeting:Assign a leader of the meeting who will keep the topic of the meeting so that people won’t waste time unintentionally shifting to off-topic.Be aware of the meeting’s time limit, and move promptly through the agenda.Assign a person to record information from the meeting. On top of staying on task, try to group meetings if possible in order to preserve a few bigger blocks of time in your schedule. Even the most effective meetings can throw you off if you’ve got 15â€"30 minutes of downtime between each of themâ€"that’s too long to do nothing, but far from enough time to get into a groove. You can’t completely eliminate all potential distractions in the workplace, but you can change your approach to help them work in your favor. Know what distracts you, then use the suggestions here to get your productivity back on track.
